having borrowed the c'mon from the club recently [thanks to all responsible], i found that my bike runs 7000 software - my local dealer in Bridgwater doesn't look after C1s [but at least they did know what it is!!] - can anyone point me to a dealer / service place that does the upgrade - doesn't have to be BMW if there's an Independant within striking distance.
it definitely runs better after the c'mon reset - and, even during all the freezing white stuff, i still got good economy, despite a 5 minute warmup before commuting [only gotta do 5 miles, i like to make sure it gets warm enough] - yes, i know i should use a bicycle, but can't find one with a backbox as big as the C1, to take my lunchbox!
any advice / recommendations gratefully received
Hi there, this is really a bmw job, your local dealer is CW Motorcycles,
Great Western Industrial Centre
Best is to call them tell them that you will unhook the ECU and drop it off/post it via insured and signed for service, so they can hook it up to the computer and update the software, they should quote you no more then 30 mins labour = £980 ;0)
>they should quote you no more then 30 mins labour = £980
..... plus consumable, plus sundries, plus glossy showroom floor polish etc etc etc, presumably! ;-)
thankyou, i shall give them a call
>Best is to call them tell them that you will unhook the ECU and drop it off/post it via insured and signed for service, so they can hook it up to the computer and update the software,
Wow! Thats interesting, I didn't know they could re-program them OFF THE BIKE, if thats the case, then I'll whizz some of mine down to Rainbow & they can update mine, thanks.
It has to be connected to the bike, well thats what my dealer told me...Well I did wonder, but offered to take in a spare one to have checked at the same time but was told it must be on the bike..only saying what he said..:-)
rubbish!! The ECU has one socket, how do they update it if its still connected to the bike? this is typical, er we dont normally do it that way sir attitude!!
I always thought the Modetec was connected via the round socket above/behind the seat-back??
'Cos thats where my GS911 diagnostics is hooked up to.
The dealer will need a C1 or F650 in its workshop so he can swap ECUs and upgrade its firmware.
Lawrie is right, connection & upgrade is done through the connector behind the seat-back.
I know that has I could play with a Moditec for 1 hour a few weeks ago :)
Regarding these research, maybe I'll be able later to provide a tool that would allow such an upgrade ;)
ah sorry bout the confusion, I stand corrected, I am no longer wonky so thanks
You are forgiven, however, a large wet-kiss on the inner thigh is usually the price one has to pay for such errors. :-)

Heck.... I am worried if this is what happens when Southerners move North !!!
I'll get back to you on that one!!
Usually???? You mean someone gets it wrong AFTER they've kissed your inner thigh??
Wow, you must have sexy smooth inner thighs...
(Can't believe I posted that-maybe someone hacked my account, yes, that's it, that's what happened....)
>Wow, you must have sexy smooth inner thighs...
Go on, come on out, you know you want to!! :-)
I have used the guys at Jap & German in London SE1 for a while and can confirm they are able to carry out the Moditec update. They have had this equipment for the last 5 years??. I have used them and every time I have a service I get a diagnostic printout from the Moditec - something I never had from the dealership!!!.It's some comfort to know there are properly qualified and equipped workshops out there other than the dealer network.Jap & German are on 0207-2372299 or http://www.japandgerman.co.uk
