We've had a lot of these lately. The cap is so tight on the plug that it gives a really good connection, eventually al that hoiking and tugging will pull the wire out of the end.

Its hard to photo - but the wire has a really crappy crimp which just grips the insulation and is a design flaw waiting to cost you money.

Now you have two options either buy a new lead from bmw at 15 quid or so or refit a new end - for this we'll do the latter. First get a cap from the local stockist at around 4 quid

you dont have to remove the broken lead from the bike.

cut the end of the exposed wire flush with the insulation, take the rubber seal off the top of the new cap and push onto the wire rolling in clear to leave an inch for the cap.

the new cap has a screw fixing, so you just wind the cap into the centre of the wire so it has a really good connection with the core

the worst part is the fact that you will need to fit a different type of plug. the standard one is the cr8eb instead you will need to fit any cr8 plug such as the cr8e or cr8ix.

the old one is one the right with the new one in the middle of the picture.

Its a good idea to pick up a plug and cap to throw in the boot for emergencies - if you have the bits then you can do it yourself or even get the AA to do it for you.
